Chewing Gum Makes People Fart More Often?

Chewing gum can indeed drive out of boredom and sleepiness. However, did you know that too often chewing gum can cause us to fart more often than usual?

When chewing gum, without our conscious will swallow more and most of which is swallowed air. In addition, artificial sweeteners, like sorbitol are commonly used in chewing gum, can also cause gas in stomach.

According to Fred Cicetti, health practitioners, most people produce about half a gallon of gas per day. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen from swallowed air are the biggest part of the fart. Results of fermentation of food in the intestines also will produce hydrogen and methane.

The smell of flatus is the result of residual gas, such as hydrogen sulfide and other compounds produced from the decomposition of food in the intestines.

Human gas released through two ways, namely when the burping and farting. When we swallow air and belch out now, the air it will come down through the intestines and out through the rectum. Half of the gas out through the rectum comes from swallowed air.

Normally, a person out of gas about 10 times each day. Flue gas up to 12 times a day is still considered normal.
